US electricity, gas and water utilities, consultants and vendors will demonstrate the fundamentals and give in-depth knowledge and comprehensive information on advanced metering and AMI projects across Texas at the AMI, Smart Metering and Customer Management Technical Tour.
Cities to be visited include Dallas, Houston and San Antonio from May 6 – 11, 2007.
Advanced systems are deceivingly complex as they have to blend with multiple technologies over several years and through changing conditions. They need to be strategically and carefully implemented and must therefore be widely researched.
“Utilities must approach technology choices with careful preparation that includes an awareness of the many issues involved over the long term,” says Rudi Leitner, managing director of tour organizer Spintelligent.
Utilities participating and showcasing their projects will include Dallas Water Utilities, CenterPoint Energy, CPS Energy and Bryan Texas Utilities. On site these utilities will also demonstrate the extended services offered beyond the meter such as customer billing, appliance monitoring, energy management and home security monitoring.
The tour will end in San Antonio and will join up with delegates at the 8th annual Metering, Billing/CIS America conference and exhibition where participants will be able to meet and network with additional industry experts and technology providers.
The Tour is part of the Metering International Academy Series providing hands-on training for participants, drawing upon a wealth of industry experience of utilities, vendors, and consultants, with proven experience, involved in many aspects of appraising, attaining and implementing technologies. Industry experience is illustrated through case studies, specific prior project work and available literature.
Tour delegates will be able to learn from those who have gone before and will gain priceless first-hand knowledge of the best practices used by US utilities. The tour is thus essential for anyone who is implementing or is about to embark on an advanced/smart metering initiative within their utility.
Space is limited to 15 participants and registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those wishing to participate should register as soon as possible at www.metering.com/tour
