Thijs Aarten, a member of Kema’s Executive Board, has been appointed as chairman of the Board, with effect from May 1, following the retirement of Pier Nabuurs.

Further, due to the further growth and internationalization of Kema, the Executive Board will be expanded with Hans van Haarst, who has worked for AkzoNobel as managing director Technology & Engineering, joining as chief operating officer on May 1, and Jos Huijbregts, currently chief financial officer at Infinitas Learning, joining as chief financial officer on June 1.

Aarten joined Kema in May 2006. A graduate from Delft University of Technology, he has held various management positions in Europe and Asia at Royal Dutch Shell, Koninklijke Pakhoed/Vopak and Shell Global Solutions.

“I am extremely proud to be able to lead Kema,” said Aarten. “With all the good work that Pier Nabuurs has already done, the in-depth energy expertise we have built up over the years and the experience Hans van Haarst and Jos Huijbregts bring with them, we have all the ingredients to enable our company to successfully respond to the changes in the global energy market.”

Nabuurs has been in his current position since January 2002, and has led the transformation of Kema to an internationally recognized company with branches and representation in more than 20 countries worldwide. He has also played a key role in the development of smart grids in Europe, as former chairman of the EU advisory commission, the European Technology Platform Smart Grids.
