CapGemini, Intel Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, GE Energy, Cisco Systems and Oracle have announced the launch of the Smart Energy Alliance. This alliance brings together the combined strengths of the founding companies, as well as other world-class infrastructure and business solution partners, to accelerate adoption of new technologies in the utility industry worldwide.

The Smart Energy Alliance will focus on solution development, field services engagement and industry marketing around a business vision of next-generation distribution, based on a services orientated enterprise and a technological vision of open, standards-based solutions. Membership is open at all levels, with a stated goal of expanding the circle of providers and solutions to serve the broader distribution industry.

Solutions offered include AMR, prepaid metering, demand management, RFID/GPS/GIS integration, advanced customer care and IP and WiFi to the field.
