Itron veteran Russ Vanos has been appointed as the company’s senior vice president of strategy and business development, with a focus on corporate growth across water, gas and smart grid technologies.

“Itron is a great company with a history of tremendous success, but we’re not resting in the past,” said Vanos. “The future is full of potential and promise. I’ll be focused 100 percent on driving Itron into its next phase of growth through next generation solutions that help our utility customers meet the energy and water challenges they face not only today but in the future.”

Vanos has been with Itron for more than 30 years. He previously served as general manager of the company’s global smart grid sales and marketing efforts and was vice president of marketing after serving as vice president of Itron hardware sales. Since joining the company in 1980, he’s held a variety of positions from sales and marketing to customer service and technical sales support.

Prior to joining Itron, Vanos was employed by Washington Water Power Company (now Avista Utilities), where he played a major role in developing, testing and deploying Itron’s first electronic meter reading systems.
