Holden, MA - 03-Feb-04 -- Inner-Tite Corp., manufacturers of security devices for utilities, announces the granting of U.S. Patent 6,684,670 for the self retained barrel lock comprising the Preload feature found in the Rhino Ring Meter Locking Ring. The patent applies to the unique design of the Head Protector component that retains the barrel lock. The design allows the barrel lock to be installed into the locking device without the need for a key. No special modifications are needed to the barrel lock thereby allowing for seamless integration with most plunger style barrel lock systems.
"This development of the preloaded Rhino Ring is very significant. With this patented preload feature, we can supply the utility company with a locking device that does not require a key to install. This will result in improved key control and better system security," states General Sales Manager Mark Graveline. "The best feature of this innovation is that this design is not limited to just one locking device, this technology is applicable to many current and future locking device designs."
The Rhino Ring is a heavy-duty hinged meter locking ring designed to secure ring style meter sockets for the long term. In addition to the patented Preload feature, the Rhino Ring features heavy gauge carbon steel construction, a unique recessed hinge for easy installation, case hardened construction to resist cutting tools and weather resistant cadmium and yellow chromate plating.
