Bglobal Metering is launching a new service – smartMETER – which is essentially a ‘mobile (cell) phone in a meter’ connected to a state-of-the-art data centre, providing customers with real time consumption information. Each meter contains a SIM card with GPRS connection, and information can be sent or received immediately, with no need for a dial-up modem. The Carbon Trust has chosen the smartMETER to participate in advanced metering field trials; Bglobal has already signed contracts with a number of energy supply companies and is now installing meters for their customers.
With smartMETER, businesses are able to perform in-depth analyses of electricity usage via a secure web site. They are able to analyse all the half-hour profile data and make inter-site comparisons, which can be used to improve budgeting, optimise tariffs and apply for a reduction in climate change levy charges.
Bglobal Metering, in partnership with an established meter operator, is a service provider able to offer a full end-to-end service supplying, fitting and reading meters and providing accurate consumption data to customers. smartMETER has initially been targeted at the business sector, but plans are being made to introduce the service to the domestic market later this year.
