Former telecomm and energy executive James Morozzi has been appointed as the first chief executive officer of the GridWise Alliance, and took up the appointment on August 1.

Previously Morozzi served as an independent advisor and consultant to various entities in the electric and telecommunications industries. Earlier appointments included director, president and chief executive officer of D&E Communications, Inc., a publicly traded provider of local, long distance, internet access, voice, data, video and computer networking services, and president of Exelon Communications, an operating division of Exelon Corporation, which provided wireless and competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) telecomm services in the Greater Philadelphia area. His early career was in general management, corporate planning and development, operations and engineering with PECO Energy Company.

“Jim is a seasoned leader who has worked his way up from a project engineer to a CEO of a publicly traded company” commented Bob Shapard, chairman of the GridWise Alliance. “His passion for grid advancement, deep understanding of the telecommunications and energy industries and extensive experience at the state and public utility commission level is a true asset to the Alliance. The appointment forms part of the transformation of the GridWise Alliance as it enters its next phase of growth and poistions as a premier thought leader on transforming the grid in the U.S. and globally.
