Valparaíso, Chile --- (METERING.COM) --- May 21, 2010 - Valparaíso utility Chilquinta Energía has launched a project to investigate a smart grid within its concession area.

The study is being carried out by GE, marking the company’s first foray in this area in Latin America.

According to a statement Chilquinta Energía expects the smart grid to contribute to ensuring future security of supply and will bring benefits to customers and the environment.

Chilquinta Energía is the largest electricity distributor in the Valparaíso region, serving about 500,000 customers in the provinces of San Antonio, Marga Marga, Valparaíso, San Felipe, Quillota and Los Andes.
