Antonio Ruffini

Antonio Ruffini trained as an electrical engineer, obtaining a BSc in 1987 and later an MSc in high voltage engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.

After working as an engineer in Eskom’s Transmission group, in 1993 he left to work in technical journalism and writing, working successively for Engineering News, Mining Weekly, African Mining, and African Energy Journal. In 2003 he returned to the field of mining with the launch of Mining Review Africa, which he has edited for much of its history, though he spent a year with the start up of a technology and science focused consumer publication, WattNow.

In 2010 Ruffini was appointed editor in chief at Spintelligent and his responsibilities include ESI Africa and Mining Review Africa.

Ruffini has won a number of writing and journalism awards, including on a number of occasions the Siemens Profile Award that acknowledges excellence in science writing across the whole of Africa.
