The World Bank has issued a tender for the supply of some 63,000 prepaid electricity meters in Niger.The prepaid electric meters will be deployed under the Electricity Access Expansion Project programme in Niger.

Under the programme, the World Bank is providing financial assistance for the government of Niger to increase access to electricity to its people. The project is made up of two phases with the first phase comprising the extension of distribution systems to support the connection of some 60,000 new connections in seven urban areas.

The second phase will strengthen institutional capacity in the electricity sector by providing financial, technical assistance and project management to the ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
