renewable energy integration

US utility San Diego & Electric (SDG&E) last week announced that it is tendering for up to 240MW of new energy resources. The new energy resources include energy storage, renewable energy, distributed generation, energy efficiency and demand response.

In a press statement, SDG&E's Chief Energy Supply Officer, Scott Drury said: "We're not only committed to reducing air emissions and meeting California's climate goals, we're leading the way."

"Our future focus is to balance our clean energy goals with providing more choices and affordable energy to our customers," Scott added.

SDG&E claims by integrating renewable energy sources onto its grid, it has significantly advanced clean energy technologies resulting in emissions reductions comparable to taking off 250.000 gasoline powered cars off the local roadway.

In 2015, SDG&E became the first California utility to supply its customers with a third of its energy, 33 percent, from renewable resources.

The utility currently has 60 contracts of renewable energy resources generating up to 2.400MW equivalent to powering 700.000 San Diego homes for a year.

SDG&E said the new energy resources will have to be located within SDG&E's service area ( in San Diego and southern Orange counties)
