DTE Energy, the parent company to Detroit Edison and Michigan Consolidated Gas and with over 3.3 million customers, has joined Visa USA’s utility programme, and will accept Visa for automatic bill payments. The utility will use NOVA Information Systems as its payment processor.
Visa launched its residential utilities campaign in late 2004, and DTE Energy is the largest utility thus far to have taken advantage of the programme. Customers who have Visa credit or cheque cards will now be able to pay their utility bills automatically and will earn rewards points, depending on their card programme. DTE Energy is offering this service without charging its customers a fee.
