Port Hueneme, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- September 25, 2008 - Three companies have been awarded indefinite quantity, indefinite delivery (IDIQ), fixed price multiple award contracts in support of the advanced metering infrastructure  (AMI) program at U.S. Navy and Marine Corps installations worldwide.

The companies are American Systems, a government and commercial IT solutions provider, Square D, a Schneider Electric company that provides electrical control and distribution equipment, and Weston Solutions, an infrastructure redevelopment firm providing integrated, sustainable solutions for the environment, property developments and buildings, and clean energy.

The work to be performed is for the design, procurement, installation, testing, and sustainment of AMI and associated systems for electric, gas, steam, and water commodities at the various U.S. Navy and Marine Corps facilities worldwide. The maximum value for all three contracts is $250 million over the next five years.

Three “sample task” projects are also due to be awarded to the three companies.

Sample task 1 will be at Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) in California, which comprises the navy installations at Port Hueneme, Point Mugu, and San Nicolas Island. A viable AMI site design has been developed for NBVC, prescribing comprehensive data collection through a system of approximately 20 RF data collector components using unlicensed 900 MHz and 2400 MHz spectrum, with localized meter communications being accomplished through twisted pair and Ethernet connections. The approximate total numbers of required metering endpoints for electricity, gas, water, and steam, are 265, 35, 60, and 1, respectively.

Sample task 2 will be at naval installations on the island of Guam, including Apra Harbor Naval Complex and the Ordnance Annex in Naval Base Guam as well as the Naval Hospital, Sasa Valley and Tenjo Vista Tank Farms, and Naval Computer and Telecommunications Stations Finegayan and Barrigada. Approximately 500 of the navy’s 720 buildings at these installations already have some forms of non-advanced metering. Due to its remote location in the Pacific Ocean, the only commodities typically used on Guam are electricity and water, and very little gas or steam metering requirements are anticipated.

Sample task 3 will be at Naval Air Station Sigonella and Naval Support Activity Naples in Italy. NAS Sigonella comprises approximately 190 buildings at three locations and NSA Naples around 100 buildings at four locations, including the main installation at Capodichino and a support site at Gricignano as well a recreation site and a SATCOM communications site, and all require a combination of electric, water and/or gas endpoints.

The three companies will compete on all task orders, which will be issued as needed.

The Department of Navy's AMI program is managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) for the Commander Naval Installations Command (CNIC).
