Integrated water services firm SUEZ North America announced its successful acquisition of water utility Forest Park Water Group.SUEZ North America provides drinking water, wastewater and waste collection services to some 7.3 million customers across the US and Canada. The utility treats 577 million gallons of water and 997 million gallons of wastewater per day in addition to managing water assets for over 4,000 municipal and industrial consumers.
Forest Park Water Group operates 13 water treatment and distribution systems in Putnam and one water network in Westchester County, New York, all providing water to some 4,000 consumers in condominiums, commercial sites and residential apartments and houses.
According to a statement, SUEZ will invest $3.5 million to improve the services of its new subsidiary over the next five years. The investment will cover upgrading existing water infrastructure with modern ones, install computerised operating systems and security programmes.
SUEZ has, since June 2016, been providing Forest Park Water Group with technical and financial support to help the water utility address operational challenges.
The provision of the technical and financial assistance followed the New York State Public Service Commission appointing SUEZ as operator of the Forest Park Water Group to help the small utility improve its services.
SUEZ North America helped Forest Park Water Group upgrade water wells to improve water quality, install new water pumps to boosts service reliability and replace analogue and ageing water meters with new meters to ensure consumers are accurately billed. The company reconstructed the interconnection system to ensure a reliable supply of water.
Commenting on the acquisition, Eric Gernath, CEO of SUEZ North America, said:“This acquisition is part of our strategy to help small water companies surrounding our service territories meet the stringent water quality regulations set forth by state and federal government.
“We can bring our expertise and experience to ensure customers are provided with a safe, secure supply of water.”
