San Antonio, TX, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- May 8, 2007 – San Antonio’s main water purveyor, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), plans to install a new integrated billing and customer information system (CIS).
In an interview with metering.com, SAWS’s Kristin Jones, who joined the utility a month ago as customer service manager of the billing division, said her focus is “on getting the system up and running,” with implementation scheduled for September 2008.
Previously Jones was utility billing manager, with responsibility for billing and meter services, at the City of Conroe – a municipality north of Houston.
SAWS’s new system will combine Hansen’s CIS with a Lawson billing module and will replace a legacy billing system that dates back to the early 1970s. “We are currently in the preliminary planning stages and reviewing the processes,” says Jones, adding that her role also includes change management.
“It is a huge project and it will impact on everyone,” she says.
The new system is intended to provide a fully integrated solution, Jones explains. “It will integrate all aspects of the business, including finance, human resources, field operations and billing, among others, and it will enable everyone in the utility to work on a single system. It is going to run our business!”
SAWS provides water, waste water and recycled water services to some 385,000 customers in and around San Antonio – the southern Texas city best known for the Alamo. Growing by an average 1,000 customers per month due principally to the on going growth of the area, the SAWS provides metered monthly billing to all customers, but is also now investigating automatic meter reading (AMR) as an additional option to improve its billing and customer service.
The San Antonio Water System is a host utility for the 8th annual Metering, Billing/CIS America, which opens in San Antonio tomorrow and runs through Friday May 11.
