Ontario utility Chatham-Kent Hydro Inc. has signed a contract with Tantalus Systems Corp., designer and manufacturer of data communications networks for utilities, to supply the Tantalus Utility Network™ (TUNet). The deployment will allow C-K Hydro to validate TUNet’s smart metering capabilities, in preparation for implementing the Ontario Energy Board’s Smart Meter Initiative.
A multi-application communications platform, TUNet will also help the utility to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer service through its support for real-time outage management and other core utility functions. The system provides exceptional range with minimal infrastructure. Demand response and other advanced metering applications can be deployed selectively, allowing utilities to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and business opportunities.
