San Francisco, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- May 17, 2012 - Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has recently reached the 9 million smart meter milestone – and with 93 percent of installations complete across Northern and Central California, most customers now have access to the energy and cost saving benefits of these smart meters.

“Smart meters are helping improve the customer experience,” said Helen Burt, senior vice president and chief customer officer of PG&E. “In addition to detecting outages, our customers are telling us how smart meters are making their homes more energy efficient and helping to reduce their bills.”
 
 
With the new meters, customers have access to a wide range of energy and cost saving tools, including energy analysis, usage notifications and voluntary rate programs. PG&E can also quickly confirm that a customer has power by pinging the smart meter, allowing the detection and restoration of outages faster – a capability that was implemented during the 2011-2012 storm season.
