This week, in the US state of Texas, the city of Cedar Park launched an online portal as part of an advanced metering infrastructure programme.Cedar Park is a city in Williamson County in the State of Texas with a population 68,918 residents. According to a local publication, the online customer portal launched on Monday will enable water consumers to access smart meter and water consumption data in real time using mobile devices.

According to Nannette McCartan, the utility programmes manager at Cedar Park, using the system, consumers will be able to track hourly water usage data. This will, in turn, help consumers to identify water efficiency potentials which would result in sustainable water usage behaviours for customers to keep their water bills low.

The online portal will allow residents to set water efficiency targets and receive notifications via email in the event they exceed set water budgets.

The development will help in the quick identification of water leaks and will provide users with official data regarding the status of dam water levels and rainfall patterns for the city to improve its water conservation efforts.

The launch of the online portal follows the city completing its rollout of smart water meters in June to eliminate estimated water billing, accurately bill consumers and reduce costs and human errors associated with manual meter reading.

Cedar Park used $5.28 million investment sourced from the city’s Utility Fund savings to replace 22,000 analogue water meters with an advanced metering infrastructure.

In related news, in early July, the city of Cedar Hill in Dallas and Ellis counties in the US state of Texas announced its partnership with water management solutions firm Fathom to improve customer experience with a new customer portal.

The city integrated with its website Fathom's latest customer portal U2You under efforts to modernise its customer engagement.

With the new customer portal, customers of Cedar Hill can register, manage their accounts, pay bills online and report queries using mobile devices.

The new cloud-based online customer portal will help customers of Cedar Hill to improve their water efficiency by access to their real-time water consumption data which they can use to make informed decisions regarding how they use water. Read more...
