Niagara Mohawk, an energy distribution subsidiary of National Grid USA, has won the automatic meter reading project of the year for 2004. The award was for the successful installation of 1.5 million Itron CENTRON residential meters equipped with AMR technology, 27,000 AMR polyphase meters and 570,000 gas meters over a period of 18 months.

The award letter says the project was chosen based on its size, scope and speed of implementation, as well as the current and anticipated benefits. Niagara Mohawk is the second largest combined gas and electricity utility in New York, covering an area of 24,000 square miles.
