Albuquerque, NM, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- December 7, 2007 – New Mexico’s newly formed Water Cabinet is giving consideration to the metering of water from underground basins in the country, anticipating poor rainfall in the area in 2008.

State Engineer John D’Antonio announced the possible move at a meeting of the New Mexico Rural Water Authority. The southeastern parts of the state will become part of a critical management area, and the metering has become necessary in order to assess how much water is available and how it can best be utilized by the farmers in the area, in a bid to improve economic development.

D’Antonio will work with the Water Cabinet on various projects aimed at improving the water supply in New Mexico.
