Mike Leonard has taken over as president of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) from outgoing president Nilaksh Kothari.

Leonard manages the water operations in Roswell, GA, U.S.A. He is the first city employee to head a national organization.

Leonard listed four priorities for his year as AWWA president:

  • Promoting the value of water professionals
  • Supporting programs to sustain a vital water-industry workforce
  • Strengthening member participation in AWWA
  • Strengthening the partnerships between AWWA and its sections.

He said he sees a similar synergy in the various disciplines and affiliations among AWWA members – those representing utilities, manufacturers, consultants and service providers, or from a different perspective those interested in water reuse, infrastructure, public affairs or other aspects of the water industry.
