The Singapore government launched an innovation centre in China to spur innovation through collaboration between Singapore and China.According to the Straits Times, the new Singapore Manufacturing Innovation Centre will bring together local technology providers and companies and initiatives from China. The centre was developed by the Singapore government through the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore. Mr Lee Ark Boon, CEO of IE Singapore, commented: "These companies can partner and co-create solutions with Chinese manufacturers as they move up the value chain.
In partnership with Chinese companies, the innovation center is expected to improve Singapore’s Iot, data analytics, augmented reality, industrial automation and additive manufacturing industries.
The launch of the innovation center follows the Guangdong provincial government setting aside $139 billion to address rising labor costs and shortages of skilled labour through the adoption of robotics in its manufacturing industry.
Mr Michael Leong, CEO of Singapore engineering firm, Sesto Robotics, added: "(The centre)'s strategic location with a well-connected transportation network and robust infrastructure provide us with an excellent base for reaching out to the Chinese companies requiring quality and intelligent automation solutions."
