NSTAR Electric & Gas Corp., with 1.4 million electricity and natural gas customers in Massachusetts, has chosen a solution by Detectent Inc. to proactively discover cases of theft of service. Detectent has developed the RevEnhance solution. Through detailed analysis of a utility’s account base, Detectent identifies suspected theft of service cases. The algorithms used in the analysis combine consumption data, detailed information about each account, and local environmental conditions to identify possible pilfering. Each suspect case is then reviewed and further analysed by a Detectent team analyst, and cases for investigation are passed on to the utility.
NSTAR has always investigated potential theft through tips and field investigations, but the utility believes that supplementing these efforts with RevEnhance, where theft of service is identified electronically, will enhance safety and further protect both paying customers and utility employees.
