Toronto, ON, Canada --- (METRING.COM) --- July 4, 2008 – Hydro One has been recognized by Corporate Knights Magazine as one of Canada's Top 50 Corporate Citizens, being placed 6th in the annual ranking – moving 20 spots from its 2007 ranking – and first when compared against other companies in the utility category.

Ranked companies are described by Corporate Knights as companies that are doing the best job at fulfilling their end of the social contract and managing their specific environmental, social and governance performance when going head-to-head with their sector peers. Hydro One's conservation and demand management programs were among the reasons the company received its ranking.

"We are proud of this recognition, and of our employees and the work they do for the people of Ontario," said Laura Formusa, Hydro One President & CEO. "In particular, we appreciate recognition for our efforts to help build a conservation culture through our conservation and demand management programs."

In 2007, Hydro One's conservation and demand management measures realized more than 170 million kilowatt of energy savings for its customers. Together with additional kWh savings since the program's inception in 2005, the company's measures have resulted in savings of 272 million kWh of energy in Ontario, or enough electricity to meet the needs of a small city for a year (23,000 homes). Carbon emissions were reduced by 178,000 tonnes.

Conservation highlights at the end of 2007 included installation of 10,000 web-enabled thermostats in houses and businesses, to enable changes in central air conditioning temperatures without having to be on site.
