This week, US headquartered energy management company Magnum Energy Solutions (MES) announced it partnered with lighting technology firm, Future Lighting Solutions (FLS).Under the partnership, FLS will market, promote and distribute Magnum's wireless lighting control products.

The partnership will focus on Magnum’s new OPUS line of fixture-integrated smart lighting products.

In a press statement, Magnum claims its OPUS fixture nodes enable individual fixture control for both high bay and low bay luminaires, covering DALI, PWM and 0-10V dim-to-off compatibility.

Mike Giorgi, CEO of Magnum, said: "We recognized the substantial advantages in partnering with a large semiconductor distributor.

"Future Lighting Solutions is already strongly positioned with a host of lighting OEMs and we also value how their team is uniquely poised on the forefront of wireless technologies.

“We see this strategic partnership as beneficial to reach a global audience of manufacturers to enable smart, energy efficient lighting products,” reiterated Mike.

Smart lighting in the US

In other smart lighting news, US utility Alabama Power announced that it piloted Sensus’ VantagePoint Lighting Control Solution to evaluate its effectiveness to conserve energy, increase efficiency and provide status of lights.

Under the first phase of the pilot project, the utility tested VantagePoint Lighting Control Solution's ability to remotely monitor and control area lighting at the utility’s operations centre in Montgomery, Alabama.

Commenting on the pilot project, Jim Fleming, principal engineer at Alabama Power, said: “While there were only a few lights in the trial, the system met our expectations to be able to control the lights and provide status.”

Sensus VantagePoint Lighting Control Solution used utilities, cities and the public to provide a green and cost-effective solution to keep public areas safe and secure, claims smart solutions provider Sensus.

According to a company release, the trial forms part of three-phase pilot project, which uses the intelligent lighting control solution to determine its efficacy in saving energy, increasing the efficiency and providing information on the status or condition of the lights used in the trial.
