Farmington Hills, MI --- (METERING.COM) --- October 18, 2010 - A new generation of substation test switches that provide reliability, safety, versatility and ease of use have recently been introduced by Brooks Utility Products.

The BFT switch combines the best of the traditional FT switches with new technology and conveniences, and it can be used in all areas where traditional FT switches are used – from isolating intelligent electronic devices (like relays and meters) to calibration and testing.

Other features of the Brooks BFT switch include each electrical contact being embedded in a plastic coating for “finger safety,” and a low internal resistance of 2 mΩ to accommodate any CT. The switch, which is available in two version – Standard (pins, dust cover and test access via test plugs) and Plus (pins, dust cover, and banana jack access on B-side) – can be used with existing drawing or for any retrofit project.

The TAP switch combines two functions into one unit – the terminal and the test block – to make testing faster, easier and safer. Its modular design saves wiring time and panel space, and features a customizable length and configuration.

Other features include a modular system available for DIN rail or screw mounting and can be configured to any length, and versatility for a range of applications, including meter testing, relay testing and CT current measurement. Finger safety is guaranteed by limited exposed metals (like the BFT switch) and pressure springs hold contacts in place, ensuring a lasting, high quality connection.

“The Brooks BFT and TAP switch systems truly offer the safety and flexibility to provide the new answers utilities need as they upgrade their infrastructure with a more technically advanced test switch design,” commented Brooks Utility Products’ John Gagnon.
