Vancouver, BC, Canada --- (METERING.COM) --- January 27, 2011 - BC Hydro has contracted with Capgemini and Corix Utilities as partners on its 1.8 million smart meter rollout.
Consulting, technology and outsourcing services provider Capgemini will provide system integration and project management services, as well as the information technology and telecommunications to support the integration of the smart metering system into key BC Hydro business functions such as outage management and customer billing.
Corix Utilities, a BC-based company, will be responsible for the installation portion of program, with preparation and staging work for the installation commencing immediately. The smart meter installation will begin in several communities throughout the province starting in summer 2011, with completion targeted for December 2012.
“The Smart Metering Program will modernize our electricity system and provide extensive benefits for our province for generations to come,” stated Bev Van Ruyven, deputy chief executive officer and executive vice-president of BC Hydro. “Smart meters give us a valuable opportunity to work directly with our customers.”
Capgemini’s three year contract is worth an estimated Ca$63 million (US$63.3 million). Corix Utilities’ contract is worth approximately $73 million (US$73.3 million) over the next two years.
BC Hydro is a commercial Crown corporation owned by the Province of British Columbia, and serves approximately 95 percent of the Province’s population.
