Water For People Provides Help For Developing Countries

UNICEF estimates that more than one billion people in the developing world do not have access to safe and plentiful drinking water. Almost three billion people have no adequate sanitation systems. Every day 11 000 children die from waterborne diseases.

To help address this urgent need, Water for People (WFP) was started in 1991 by members of the American Water Works Association. Since its beginning, WFP has supported over 350 projects in 37 countries. Typical projects are spring-fed community water systems, wells with hand pumps, latrine construction, operator training, and hygiene education programs. Water projects will continue this year in many countries including Water For People’s four focus countries: Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras and Vietnam. If you would like to contribute to this ongoing effort or if you need additional information, please contact Judi Kraszewski at +1 303 734-3494 or e-mail judi@water4people.org.
