Raleigh, NC, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- July 13, 2007 – The Raleigh City Council, which in May unanimously approved mandatory year-round lawn irrigation water conservation measures for City of Raleigh water customers, plans to replace all its existing water meters in an effort to conserve a scarce resource. Over the next 18 months all 170,000 customers will have new meters that will be read automatically using a drive-by system.

Charles Langston, the City’s meter operations superintendent, believes that many of the existing meters are under-reading by as much as 20%. Customers have therefore been warned to expect an increase in their bills, which will be sent out monthly once the new system is in place.
