Landis+Gyr ships 30million FOCUS meters in 10 yearsEnergy management solutions provider Landis+Gyr has reached a milestone for its FOCUS range of electric meters - the company has shipped more than 30 million units since it was first introduced 10 years ago.

In a statement this week, the Swiss-headquartered company said to date it has dispatched 32 million FOCUS residential meters to energy companies in North America and other countries using advanced metering technology approved by the American National Standards Institute.

Residential metering

Landis+Gyr introduced the E130 FOCUS AL in 2003, a residential meter that provided voltage information, and has since sold 14 million units.

Its successor, the E350 FOCUS AX-SD, was launched in 2007. This model featuring an integrated service switch has gone on to rack up sales of more than 17 million units for the metering giant driven by utility payment programs requiring remote switching capabilities.

Commenting on the company's milestone, Steve Schamber, vice president of product management at Landis+Gyr, said: "The FOCUS line of meters complement advanced metering and smart grid technology with easy integration of communication modules and a wide variety of accessible metering values.

"Over time, the FOCUS platform became the first choice for many of the largest smart metering deployments in the country [US].

He added: "The features and data available in the FOCUS AX rival those of commercial meters from a decade ago. And we continue to improve upon the design based on customer feedback and requests."

Growth in 2015

In a double show of strength for the start of 2015, Landis+Gyr was again in the news last week talking about its strategic partnership with Norwegian software developer Powel to target customers in Scandinavia.

The pair said in a statement that the collaboration was mutually beneficial to capturing more of the market in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
