Smart meters round-up Asia and Europe
Secure Meters has joined Trilliant's partner programme to tap into its mesh technology platform to expand its foothold in Asia Pacific

In more news from Asian Utility Week 2015 taking place in Bangkok this week, Indian smart metering supplier Secure Meters has joined the Trilliant Open Smart Device Interface partner programme.

Under the collaboration, Secure will tap into Trilliant’s 2.4 GHz mesh technology platform to provide bandwidth in a bid to increase its smart metering service to the Asia Pacific market.

Secure’s range of plug-and-play modular meters, i-Credit 510, Sprint 210 and Premier 210, have already been deployed in many parts of Southeast Asia and Australia and New Zealand.

Dutch smart meter news

Meanwhile in Europe, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs is reported to be working on a tariff regime for the placement of smart energy meters by third parties.

Gas and electricity meters are currently only placed by order of network administrators such as Stedin and Alliander, according to a report by Telecompaper.

The law would allow for third party installation, paid by the network administrator for a proposed fee of EUR19.

The ministry has opened the regulation to consultation and will accept comments until 7 July.

Also in the Netherlands, a Dutch startup CareToSave has raised money for a Smart Home energy package via crowdfunding.

The Hyko device will be placed in the meter, monitor energy use and then send the information via Bluetooth to a gateway connected to a cloud platform.

The Hyko gateway is shaped like a polar bear, which turns more red as energy consumption goes higher. An app aimed at children enables users to earn icicles. The price of the package, as part of the Crowdfunding campaign, is EUR 99.

And Telecompaper, a trade news service for the telecommunications industry, also reports that Deutsche Telekom will adopt software solutions from Dresden-based Robotron as the basis for a cloud-based Smart Meter Gateway Administration system.

Telekom will use the Robotron GWA-Manager, esmart and SwitchingServer products to support its Gateway Administration Services.
