Geneva, Switzerland --- (METERING.COM) --- May 27, 2010 - The proliferation of smart grid standards initiatives over the past year or so can be difficult to keep up with but now help is at hand with a repository, “Activities in Smart Grid Standardization,” from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Prepared by the Policy & Technology Watch Division of the ITU’s Technology Standardization Division (ITU-T), this version 1.0 of the repository lists 23 standards development organizations, consortia, fora and other groups involved in smart grid standardization around the world, with a summary of their activities, lists of output documents and other useful information.

The repository was conceived as an input to the ITU-T new focus group on the smart grid, which was formed earlier this month with the aim to identify and study the smart grid standards needs from a telecommunications perspective (see ITU introduces smart grid standards initiative).

The repository is intended as a starting point and a running document rather than an exhaustive review, and users are encouraged to add and modify entries in order to maximize its benefit to the wider smart grid community (contact the authors at
