Perth, U.K. --- (METERING.COM) --- January 30, 2008 – Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE), through its subsidiary SSE (Ireland) Limited (SSE Ireland) has completed the acquisition of CHP Supply Limited, which trades as CH Power in the Irish electricity market. Through this acquisition, SSE will gain 3,500 electricity supply customers in the Republic of Ireland, mainly in the small and medium sized business market. The acquisition also includes business premises in Portlaoise and Dublin.

This acquisition follows the announcement by SSE on January 4, 2008 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Dublin-based Airtricity Holdings Ltd.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, Energy Supply Director of SSE, said: "This acquisition marks the first phase of SSE’s move into the Irish supply market. It provides SSE with its first 3,500 customers and establishes a sound foundation to pursue our stated objective of becoming a significant player in this market."

Kevin Greenhorn, Managing Director of SSE Ireland, said: "SSE is a proven low cost supplier of energy with an outstanding reputation for customer service. By bringing this experience and reputation to the Irish supply market we expect to see significant growth in customer numbers."

In August last year SSE applied for a license to supply power in Northern Ireland. This application is yet to be approved by the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation; this approval is expected in February. SSE’s move into the country will aid liberalization efforts and offer customers more choice as regards their preferred energy supplier.
