Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) Plc. has confirmed its support of the Bluetooth special interest group’s intention to integrate ultra-wideband (UWB) technology into the Bluetooth specification. The new standard with UWB will offer higher data transfer rates than standard Bluetooth, and will allow devices to inter-operate at high data rates when deployed in different end equipment.
The use of the established Bluetooth protocol stack and profiles will allow the new standard to be operated in modes that are fully backwards compatible with products that are already equipped with Bluetooth, thus creating the world’s largest installed base of products with embedded short range wireless technology.
CSR will launch a Bluetooth product supporting UWB after the new standard is ratified by the special interest group.
