Former British Gas Trading MD and Centrica chief operating officer Mike Alexander has joined meter manufacturer Ampy Metering in a senior management position. Alexander’s appointment will see him taking an active consultancy role within Ampy Metering; his primary responsibility will include helping to guide the company through the emerging smart metering marketplace.

Ampy Metering, part of the Bayard group, is participating in the development and rollout of smart metering for the U.K. market, and is currently involved in three of the four government-led trials into the capabilities of this technology.

Alexander is a non-executive director of the construction company Costain plc, an independent director with the Payments Council, the organisation which sets the strategy for the U.K. payment systems, and the chair of TGE Marine Gmbh, a leader in gas carrier design and construction. He also advises Marwyn Investment Management LLP, which invests in small to mid-cap businesses primarily in the utilities, oil, gas, engineering, leisure and technology sectors.
