Paris, France --- (METERING.COM) --- October 11, 2006 – Sagem Communication, a manufacturer of mobile and broadband communication products, and meter manufacturer Iskraemeco have announced that the first interoperable AMR static meters are now available. This offers utilities the ability to roll out an open AMR system where Sagem and Iskra meters will communicate without any software adaptation.

The interoperability of both ranges of meters is based on international standards – IEC 61334-5-1 for data transport, and HDLC, DLMA/COSEM and OBIS for customer data interface. These standardized communication interfaces means that meters can speak the same language, including the definition of data dedicated to customers.

“This interoperable solution represents a real step ahead in the metering market,” says François Guérineau, head of Sagem’s Metering Business Unit. “This is the first time that meters from different manufacturers do communicate.”

Sagem already has almost 5 million electronic meters in the field, and there are more than 60 million Iskra meters installed worldwide.
