Irish utility ESB Networks, through its energy management subsidiary Smart Energy Services, has plans to deliver €150 million ($185 million) in savings for over 300 large businesses in Ireland and the UK by 2020.

Smart Energy Services provides consultancy, capital funding and energy management services to help commercial consumers reduce energy use, costs and carbon emissions.

Smart Energy Services  has since 2016 partnered with 200 Irish and UK companies and helped them deliver €55 million ($68 million) in energy savings.

John Walsh, Head of Smart Energy Services at ESB said: “In response to a growth in demand from large energy users to reduce their energy costs, we are delighted to work with companies in Ireland and the UK to deliver over €150 million in savings. Since its launch in 2016, Smart Energy Services has gained considerable interest from companies with high energy demand and has become a real driver of growth for the overall ESB Group.”

ESB Networks will direct €15 million ($18 million) towards energy management and efficiency projects in 2018 to business consumers reduce energy use by 60%.

Business customers assisted by Smart Energy Services include Tesco and Coral Leisure Sports.

Tesco and Coral Leisure Sports have managed to reduce energy costs by 25% in 148 stores in Ireland and recreational facilities, respectively.

BWG Foods partnered with ESB to deliver energy efficient lighting retrofits across its network of Spar, EUROSPAR, Mace, Londis and XL retail stores throughout Ireland.

ESB has also worked with the Dublin Airport Authority, which is said to be on course to achieve a 33% cut in its energy costs by 2020.
