Croatia’s power supply company Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) has signed an agreement with the US Energy Association and the American Electric Power company with a view to assisting with HEP’s restructuring and thereafter the opening up of Croatia’s electric power market. The partnership programme, which will be financed by the US Agency for International Development, covers a one-year period, but could be extended if all parties agree.

American Electric Power is one of the largest companies in the US, and the agreement will enable the transfer of AEP’s knowledge and experience to HEP in the development and reform of the electric power sector. A workshop organised by the European Commission, with participation by the World Bank and USAID, will be held in Croatia’s capital Zagreb next month to move forward with the restructuring and privatisation initiatives.
