Scotland, U.K. --- (METERING.COM) --- September 9, 2008 – Scottish businesses are to become the first in the UK to be offered a direct debit discount on their water bills. The new initiative, launched by Business Stream, is a first within the Scottish water sector and will cut bills for many non-domestic customers.
Business Stream has also introduced new online services for customers, enabling them to make payments using their credit cards on-line, as well as submit meter readings and advise of any changes in their billing details. Customers can access these new services by visiting www.business-stream.co.uk/youraccount
The new services follow the recent deregulation of the Scottish business water market which opened to competition on April 1 this year and are being offered to Business Stream’s 96,000 water and waste water customers. While direct debit discounts are common within other areas of the utility industry, this initiative is the first to be introduced within the Scottish water sector. Under the scheme, direct debit customers will continue to receive their normal bill with the discount automatically deducted from their nominated accounts.
Mark Powles, chief executive of Business Stream, said: “The direct debit discount and introduction of on-line services are further examples of how we are introducing innovation into the competitive market in Scotland. We are keen to work proactively with customers and pass on any efficiency savings we can make by being more responsive to their needs.
“These services are part of a raft of new, customer focused measures which we’ve introduced to improve the offering for non-domestic customers and demonstrate our commitment to them. As an organisation we are completely focused on raising the bar in terms of customer service to ensure we remain the water supplier of choice for Scottish business.”
Other recent services introduced by Business Stream includes consolidated billing for multi-site customers, as well as tailored waste water and management services. Through its water management services, Business Stream believes it can deliver businesses year-on-year cost savings of up to £100,000.
