Lenenergo, a utility based in St. Petersburg, Russia, has successfully completed a 750 meter pilot of Eka Systems Inc.'s EkaNet Wireless AMR system - a two-way, self-configuring wireless mesh AMR system. Lenenergo selected EkaNet based on the system's fully self-configuring feature and its robust capabilities. The pilot has operated successfully for over a year.
Lenenergo, which serves 6.5 million customers located in an area of 33,000 square miles, installed 750 EkaNet-enabled meters throughout a large residential apartment complex. The utility will now integrate the EkaNet Wireless AMR system into its billing process for a complete end-to-end automated metering and billing solution. The system will also be used for distribution load monitoring to identify and minimise non-technical losses. Lenenergo plans a 30,000 meter EkaNet deployment for later this year.
