Sydney, Australia --- (METERING.COM) --- July 12, 2007 – Research by EnergyAustralia, a large electricity retailer, shows that women make the call on power, gas, telephones and other vital household services in two out of three households.

“Women wield real power when it comes to the necessities of life - like power,” EnergyAustralia’s Retail General Manager Tim O’Grady said.

The EnergyAustralia research of south-east Queensland residents also showed that more than 70 per cent of households were prepared to change electricity providers now that they have the power to choose energy provider; and that only 7 per cent of total respondents said they would not consider switching providers.

Earlier research showed south-east Queenslanders (SEQs) are less likely to show loyalty to service providers than New South Wales country or Canberra residents. Twenty-six per cent of SEQ residents said they would shop around every year for an energy provider; while only 16 per cent of Canberrans and 13 per cent of country NSW residents would shop around yearly.

“Queenslanders clearly have an open mind about electricity retail competition, but our qualitative research shows reliability, experience and green credentials are also important,” O’Grady said. “EnergyAustralia is making a considered and planned entry into the Queensland electricity market to ensure we meet expectations and hold onto customers for the long haul.

“Some smaller retailers that intended to offer retail electricity have already withdrawn so we’re confident Queenslanders will expect stability and certainty in retail service and pricing. EnergyAustralia is well-placed to meet local expectations because it already services business customers in Queensland and has more than 100 years’ experience and 1.5 million energy customers across Australia.”
