Wellington, New Zealand --- (METERING.COM) --- March 22, 2007 – Energy Intellect Ltd, a New Zealand-based developer of smart metering solutions, has announced the signing of a partner project agreement with Echelon Corporation, to address emergent smart metering opportunities and energy conservation in Australia and New Zealand. The agreement means that Energy Intellect will become a value-added reseller of Echelon’s Networked Energy Services (NES) smart metering system.

The agreement encompasses the extension by Energy Intellect of its iE2 meter data management platform to interact with Echelon’s NES system and deliver a comprehensive residential and commercial automated meter reading and data management solution.

The integration of the iE2 platform and the NES system will assist electricity utilities and end users to improve their energy efficiency— an objective foreshadowed by New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark in her 2007 Statement to Parliament.

Echelon's NES system provides an open, bidirectional, and extensible infrastructure that enables a comprehensive range of utility applications that can bring benefits to every aspect of a utility's operation, from metering, to customer services, to distribution operations, to value-added services. It includes a suite of single-phase and polyphase meters, powerful IP-connected data concentrators, and scalable system software. The system will be complemented by Energy Intellect’s polyphase metering and cellular communications product portfolio that has been extensively deployed across a wide cross-section of the Australian and New Zealand commercial and industrial electricity metering market.

“Energy Intellect and Echelon foresee significant synergies from the integration of the NES residential and light commercial solution with Energy Intellect’s iE2 platform, and our proven expertise in the New Zealand and Australian markets,” said Energy Intellect General Manager Sales & Marketing, Michael Stephens. “Governmental, regulatory, and commercial imperatives are driving the adoption of smart metering solutions in both Australia and New Zealand. This partnership between Energy Intellect and Echelon is a market-led response addressing the energy efficiency challenges ahead.”
