Melbourne, Australia --- (METERING.COM) --- March 24, 2010 - Victoria’s power distributors CitiPower and Powercor Australia have implemented Ventyx Service Suite to support the rollout of 1.1 million smart meters across their distribution networks, the company has announced.
Following the rollout, the company plans to expand the scope of the Service Suite application to encompass all field mobility operations.
The implementation of Service Suite marks another milestone in the company’s commitment to the Victorian government’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project, which mandates the rollout of smart meters to all Victorian households and small businesses by 2013. Last summer, the company announced partnerships with smart meter manufacturers Landis+Gyr and PRI Australasia, as well as network and communications provider Silver Spring Networks. Soon after, the company and its field services provider, Powercor Network Services (PNS), announced contracts with Bilfinger Berger Services (BBS) and UXC for the physical installation of the smart meters.
“CitiPower and Powercor are leading the charge in transforming the way consumers use and think about electricity, as well as how distributors can more effectively and efficiently manage the electricity supply,” said Powercor general manager – information technology, Glen McLean. “Mandating a single application for the dispatch of our partners’ field workforce enables us to standardize processes, procedures and activities across all resources in the field. As a result, our partner resources are more productive and efficient – achieving efficiency as high as 12 minutes per meter – and we can measure progress against a common benchmark to ensure the rollout remains on track.”
With the installation of Ventyx Service Suite, CitiPower and Powercor have provided their users and partners with a powerful, full featured mobile workforce management solution to efficiently plan, schedule and execute all types of field work and automate the entire service workflow.
“Ventyx is proud to add CitiPower and Powercor Australia to our growing list of premier utility clients around the world,” said Ventyx senior vice president Asia-Pacific, Scot Spear. “We are delighted to partner with CitiPower and Powercor in this important effort to transform electricity distribution across the state of Victoria.”
CitiPower supplies electricity to more than 310,000 distribution customers in Melbourne's CBD and inner suburbs, while Powercor Australia services approximately 700,000 distribution customers in regional and rural centers in central and western Victoria and Melbourne's outer western suburbs.
According to the company, the smart meter rollout is on track, with more than 30,000 meters installed to date.
