Advanced metering project for Australia

Integral Energy, the second largest state-owned energy company in New South Wales, Australia, has chosen Echelon Corporation’s Networked Energy Services (NES) system for an advanced metering project. This project, which will initially serve 3,000 residential customers in Sydney, with a possible option to extend to 7,000 homes, marks an important step in the Australian marketplace, where various government agencies at state and national level are considering regulations that will mandate some level of advanced electricity metering infrastructure.

The utility expects its customer base to increase by 29% over the next decade, with demand growing by 45%. The NES system will provide an advanced metering solution that will allow Integral Energy to offer their customers better service and the ability to reduce energy consumption. The system consists of an open, bidirectional and extensible infrastructure that enables a comprehensive range of utility applications, from metering to customer services to distribution operations to value-added services.
