Islamabad, Pakistan --- (METERING.COM) --- August 3, 2006 – The Pakistan government had decided in principle to install meters in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) bordering Afghanistan in order to curb excessive electricity usage.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Fata parliamentarians, provincial officials, executives of the Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO) and the Federal Minister for Political Affairs, Amir Muqam Khan.
Khan further objected to the provision of free electricity in the Fata, calling it an injustice to the residents in others of the country who pay for electricity. He said the installing of meters is the only solution for proper use of electricity.
However, tribesmen in the FATA now need to be convinced of the need for billing of electricity.
