The tests are being carried out at the CPRI’s facilities in both Bangalore and Bhopal. The organization is also undertaking third party inspections and field evaluation of energy meters at customers’ premises, in accordance with the requirements of distribution companies, electricity regulatory commissions and other government agencies.
Over the last three years close to 300 single and three-phase meters have been tested, and some 140 have not complied with standards. Meters are also tested for acceptance, routine operation and tamper detection functions, and some 240 meters out of over 3000 samples have failed to meet appropriate standards and/or utility requirements.
The CPRI is also carrying out testing of electronic energy meters at different customer locations, in compliance with the requirements of the Indian Government Department of Power. Seven meters were found to be faulty out of a total of 555 meters.
