The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) adopted a plan of action for energy co-operation at its meeting in June, in the light of growing concerns about energy security and sustainable development. The plan aims to ensure policy and technical continuity and sustainable co-operation in the ASEAN energy sector towards closer regional economic integration.

The creation of progressive policies for market reforms and liberalisation and the greater use of renewable energy were also discussed, with member states noting that high oil prices made the latter a vital aspect of future planning.
