Power line communication solutions provider gridComm has partnered with wireless network provider Virtual Extension to conduct R&D in hybrid connectivity networks.The partnership will allow research and development of an advanced hybrid connectivity solution of wireless mesh and PLC networks.
According to a press statement, the partnership is co-funded via the Singapore-Israel Industrial Research and Development Foundation (SIIRD) facilitating joint industrial R&D projects , between companies from Israel and Singapore, which would lead to successful commercialization.
Under the partnership, gridComm and Virtual Extension said they will integrate their solutions.
The two believe the integration will develop an improved solution which will allow implementation of new IoT/M2M projects in sectors including smart lighting control, smart metering, smart agriculture, smart city, smart water management, environmental monitoring, medical, security and safety.
Yariv Oren, CEO of Israel headquartered Virtual Extension said integrating firm’s DALI and IoT networks solutions with gridComm’s PLC connectivity “… further increases their usefulness for our customers, and helps us expand into new markets."
Mike Holt, CEO of gridComm added: "We foresee that this technology will tremendously reduce meter installation and maintenance costs through automatic configuration of PLC and wireless channels, enabling robust and reliable sustained communications in noisy environments."
Holt added: "This technology will also enable our customers to connect wireless sensors, such as weather sensors, light sensors and motion sensors to our smart street light system effortlessly. This will truly enable the realization of a Smart City."
PLC and Smart metering
The partnership follows securing of G3-PLC smart meters communication processor certification from the G3-PLC Alliance by Sagemcom in Q4 2015.
Sagemcom reported that its G3-PLC single and three phase products passed Cenelec A G3-PLC technology according to ITU G.9903 specification confirming full operation of the communication processor.
The testing done in collaboration with French company Laboratoire des Applications Numeriques (LAN) included interoperability testing to verify compliance of the device’s physical layer with other referenced devices.
In addition, the testing verified the entire product performance complied with requirements as well as its evaluation against the LAN laboratory’s independent tester unit.
