Trilliant recognised at Asian Utility week

Trilliant’s smart grid communications technologies were acknowledged at Asian Utility Week for assisting two regional utilities to monitor their grids.

In a press statement, the solutions provider said its technology was awarded for enhancing the electric grid of Vietnamese power utility Ho Chi Minh Power Corporation (EVN HCMC).

The deployment of the solution by EVN HCMC paved way for the utility to be awarded the region’s “Best Digital Transformation Project.”  The award looked at a project’s impact on enhancing utility’s revenue generation, network performance, renewable energy integration, workforce management and customer engagement.

The award also judged how a utility used technology to advance operational excellence and improve energy efficiency.

For this project, Trilliant supplied the utility with its end-to-end RF mesh communications platform which was deployed in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The solution provided a network for EVN HCMC’s metering infrastructure to communicate with various technology firms at Saigon Hi-Tech Park.

In a press statement, Trilliant also expressed its satisfaction for the award which Malaysia’s power company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) received for improving its customer engagement for grid reliability.

The utility was honored for the “Best Customer Value AMI Infrastructure Rollout.” The award analysed utilities efforts in 2015 toward improving their smart grid infrastructure through the deployment of smart meters, communications networks and data management systems pilots.

The judges looked at the size of the rollout, the customer value offered by the rollout as well as level of interoperability.

Bryan Spear, managing director for APAC at Trilliant, commented: "Economic growth in Southeast Asia drives the need for smart energy solutions …”

The solutions provider is not only active in improving Asian utilities' grids. In the first quarter of 2016, in Europe, German power utility NEW Netz announced the start of a smart grid pilot in the country's Lower Rhine region.

NEW Netz said it will use Trilliant’s smart metering and communications solution in the trial to see if the utility can reduce its non-technical losses. [Trilliant adds Ingenu M2M technology to smart grid platform].

The utility said it believes the solution will allow it to manage different smart grid and smart city applications on one network, as well as, incorporate future smart grid initiatives such as the integration of renewable energy onto the grid.

The development is one of the utility's measures to help Germany meet EU goals of reducing carbon emissions whilst maintaining grid reliability.
