Under the deal, the solutions provider will integrate its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution Gridstream within the utility’s energy distribution network to provide connectivity between the energy provider and its smart meters and grid devices.
The deployment of the AMI network together with some 173,000 smart meters is set to begin in June through to 2019.
The AMI project is part of efforts by Clay Electric to improve the efficiency of its operations and services to some 170,000 consumers in north Florida.
Toby Moss, director of information and communication technology at Clay Electric said the project will help the utility firm to reduce power outages through improved management and maintenance of its grid network.
The programme will also allow the co-operative to introduce new prepayment services to improve its energy billing processes.
Landis+Gyr claims that its AMI network helps utility companies achieve the reliability of their grid networks as it provides secure connectivity of energy management equipment including load management devices, streetlight controllers, distribution automation devices and home area network equipment. The deal comes a week later after Spanish multinational electric utility company Iberdrola ordered an additional 700,000 smart meters from Landis+Gyr.
The smart meter deal forms part of a long-standing contract between the Spanish utility and the metering and energy management company. Landis+Gyr has supplied Iberdrola with a total of 1.5 million devices and its AMI network over the past six years.
According to a company release, the newly ordered smart meters are of the latest generation and will be installed within the scope of the final phase of the STAR mass rollout, starting in 2017.
By December next year, Iberdrola aims to equip all of its domestic electricity customers with smart meters, in line with Spanish regulations.
